LOCATION

Lavender cottage is a private retreat located in Oreshak village, just an 18 min drive north from both Varna International Airport and the motorway to Sofia, 20 min from the City of Varna, and 25 min from the resorts of Golden Sands and Albena, 12 min from the nearest beach. As of summer 2006 both Bulgaria Air and British Airways are running regular direct flights between London and Varna, along with Thomas Cook, First Choice, Balkan Holidays and other charter flight operators flying to Varna from various airports in UK and mainland Europe.

With Lavender cottage situated not far (4 km) from the main road (north to Romania and south to Varna and onto Istanbul), the cottage setting provides a good starting point for travel further a field, along the Black Sea Coast - to the rocky, cave-pocketed cliffs of Yailata and cape Kaliakra, the exotic coves of Russalka and the seaside Romanian resorts of Constanza and Mamaya, to name a few. 

Equally convenient to reach are daytime shopping and dining-out spots, as well as night-life entertainment in and around town, to be found in abundance along the endless string of cafes, fish restaurants, disco and night clubs on the seafront alleys of Varna, Sunny Day, Golden Sands, Albena, etc.

HOW TO GET THERE AND AROUND

A vehicle hire may be arranged online from a number of companies such as CarRental.bg . Other options can be viewed on Need.bg. It is highly recommended that a car is hired for mobility, however a regular public bus service is also available from Varna to the village with buses running in and out 7 to 8 times a day, seven days a week at a rate of BGN 2.30 (EUR 1.10) per ticket, one way (prices 2009). A trip to town by car takes approx. 20 minutes, while the bus can take anythng between 40 to 60 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are available from various points in town and the resorts or by phone. Try to use radio taxis, which are part of bigger companies operating at fixed rates. Alternatively, agree the fare with the driver beforehand.

      COMMUNICATIONS

The village has mobile phone range for international roaming. A “pay-as-you-go” card from one fo the 3 local GSM providers can be arranged by the owner on advance request, should the guests want to use one while staying in the country.  The card will be charged at cost. Re-charging vouchers are available at most phone shops and newsagents in Varna. There is no land line at the cottage.
